With the 2008 MLB season getting closer and closer, it’s time to start thinking about who’s going to win the 2008 World Series and to decide if you want to take a chance and place a bet on your favorite team. I am going to go through the 2008 MLB Betting Predictions on the Top 5 teams and base them on what the sports books are currently showing for their online odds and my own opinion. Remember, when you are making MLB betting predictions for the World Series you need to make sure that you have the bankroll to back it. Picking a winner is a long shot, as the baseball season is a long haul and many things can happen. But, if you can afford to place a bet the potential return can be quite high and worth the risk.

Right now the favorite, according to most sports books, is the Boston Red Sox to take it all and you can get roughly a 4-1 or better return on your money. That is a good pay out, but as you can see by the odds, it is still a relatively high risk bet. Their opponent last year in the 2007 World Series was the Colorado Rockies and the current MLB odds for them to win the Series this year is around 22-1. As you can see, it is quite a long shot for them to win it this year. Making a MLB betting prediction now for a World Series winner is a high risk/reward bet and should be seen as that. However, it can be a fun bet to place if you have a good bankroll though.

Here are the 2008 MLB Betting Predictions for the World Series winner:

1) Boston Red Sox –

Current favorite at most sports books and based on last year performance there’s a good chance they will make it there again. They basically have the same team as last year and will be strong again. Look for them to make the post season and battle it out. Money lines from +400 to +520.

2) New York Mets –

The next few spots, including this one, will vary depending on the sports book you look at. When you are looking that far into the future the MLB predictions get harder to pick. So I am placing the Mets in the number two spot as that seems to be the majority consensus for the sports books that I use. The Mets collapsed at the end of last season but I wouldn’t expect the same this year. They have added pitching ace Johan Santana and he will make a big difference. He is the best pitcher in the game and he should help them through out the year and into the post season. Money lines from +400 to +638.

3) Detroit Tigers –

Third spot is another tough pick. It is basically a toss up and I am putting the Tigers ahead of the Yankees when it comes to my MLB betting predictions. They have made improvements to an already strong offense by adding Renteria and Cabrera and added depth to the pitching staff by picking up Dontrelle Willis. 2008 will see them healthy and strong and possibly the best team in baseball. Money lines from +460 to +700.

4) New York Yankees –

Finally the Yankees show up on the list. The perennial power house is starting to stagger a bit under the weight of the amount of good teams out there. They will be able to put up the runs but are questionable in the bull pen. There are a lot of question marks there and that is why sports bettors are backing off on them a bit, not to mention the loss of manager Joe Torres. The public loves to bet them and there are chance through out the season to take advantage of that. Money lines from +460 to +700.

5) Los Angeles Angels –

The Angels have been a very strong team in the AL and again have a great shot at winning the AL West. They have added Tori Hunter to the line up and he will help the offense and the outfield. When it comes to pitching Lackey should have another strong year but you need to watch how number two pitcher, Kelvim Escobar, comes back from his shoulder injury. He will also miss the first month of the regular season, but that shouldn’t affect the teams position in the standings. Money lines from +530 to +1400

Those are the Top 5 MLB betting predictions for the 2008 World Series winner. As you can see, the money lines vary a lot between the sports books, so to bet the most value you should decide which team you want to wager on and then look for the best odds. It may even be worth signing up at a new one to get the best possible odds, which is even more important for a bet like this, that has a high risk. You need the high reward to balance it out. It is also valuable to use more then one sports book during the regular season, so if you don’t have more then one sports book account already, this could be a good opportunity to get that 2nd or 3rd one and make the most out of your MLB betting prediction for the World Series and the regular season as odds vary all of the time.
